Frequently asked questions...
What is caulking?
- Caulking is the art of applying a sealant between a gap of crevice to make it watertight.
- Below are some photos which show some poorly applied silicon versus our professional seals.
How do I know that i need any caulking done?
- Take a look around your home or office, if you can see gaps, splits or cracking where there has been sealant or grout previously than chances are you need to have it sealed back up.
- Pay particular attention to any showers, vanities, windows, doors & sinks that have an open gap, sealant coming away or cracking grout. The number of homes we visit and that have no seal whatsoever is quite high and you can start to see water damage on vanities and connected walls.
- Silicon will not last forever and will gradually break down and come away, sometimes people are tidying up and pull away the mouldy silicon off not really understanding why its there.
- We have also been to several newly contructed buildings which just never had any silicon installed or they have used grout in areas where silicon would have been a better solution.
- If you are unsure just contact us and we would be happy to go through it with you.
What type of caulk do you use?
- It really depends on the job but we always use high quality products that will last for years to come.
- Be wary of cheaper products and services, as the saying goes you get what you pay for.
Are the seals waterproof?
- Well that's the point, we seal those gaps to keep the water out but its not only water that it keeps out.
- Seals also prevent any wind and bugs that might find their way inside your home, depending on what area we are sealing.
Does the products you use give off an odour?
- Unfortunately all sealants give off some odour but it usually only lasts about 24 hrs, think of it like paint drying.
How long does it take to dry?
- For caulking the average bead will start to form a skin in about 20 minutes but will take roughly 24 hrs to cure.
- We recommend that you leave your new seals alone as long as possible to ensure a strong bond. In cooler times of the year it can take a bit longer to cure.
- For grout it really depends on the area we are sealing but usually it is between 24-72hrs before it's cured.
If we want a quote do you have to come see us?
- To ensure we can give you the most accurate quote we generally insist on a full site visit for both domestic and commercial jobs. This is to ensure that we quote on all areas required.
Do you offer free quotes?
- Quotes are 100% Free...!
Could you go over the old caulking to save money?
- In short, no! Our process is to fully remove the old caulk, clean the surface and re-apply your new caulk to provide the best seal possible.
- If the old seal is already infected with mould it wont take long for it to work its way into the new silicon.
Can we choose the colour?
- As far as we're concerned your the boss, if you would like a certain colour we're more than happy to oblige but if you pick a brown silicon to go with black and white tiles we may try to talk you out of it.
How long will it take to do the work?
- Well this really depends on the size of the job, we've had smaller jobs that have taken less than an hour to some larger jobs that have gone for several months. We will be able to give you a clear indication when we are on site.
Does the area for silicon need to be clean?
- The short answer is yes, but if there is a small amount of dust or debris then thats not a problem.
- Where we do run into trouble is when the area is wet (as the silicon just won't stick) or is substantionally dirty which will need to be tidied up as we dont want any debris in your new seals.
What type of payment do we take?
- Cash, Credit Card, eftpos or invoice by prior arrangment.
Will you clean up after we've done the job?
- Absolutely! we cannot stand when trades leave a mess.
What areas do you service?
- We are based around the Perth metro area but we service areas from Geraldton to Albany.
- Outside of the metro area may inccur a surcharge but any additional charges will be discussed with you prior to the start of any work.
